Shannon Puts Food Hunger on the Agenda

On 5 th December 2019, UNHS held their recent awareness event at Edinburgh University: Zero Hunger. Shannon McCracken – one of our UNHS interns – led the event aiming to highlight the issues of food security and hunger in Scotland. “These issues are more prominent than you would probably think,” Shannon voiced; explaining why it was important to hold the event so close to Christmas – the holiday of giving. For Zero Hunger, UNHS collaborated with the renowned high-street food companies Starbucks, Pret A Manger and Franco Manca. The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is a yearly event on December 2, organized by the United Nations General Assembly. The Day was first celebrated in 1986. The Catholic Church and the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

The Catholic Church has been a leading proponent of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which 122 states, including the Vatican, voted to adopt at the United Nations in July 2017.
