UN General Assembly First Committee

UN First Committee

The UN General Assembly First Committee just wrapped up last Friday, as diplomats finished voting on resolutions. Overall, organizations like ICAN were pleased with the high number of positive references to the TPNW but disappointed by the attempts by a minority of states to walk back references to the humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons and to their own disarmament commitments.

ICAN has posted a First Committee analysis blog covering what was said about the TPNW, humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons and disarmament on their website, so you can read more about it here. For more comprehensive coverage, check out Reaching Critical Will's website and their First Committee Monitors here.
